Since Earth Day was founded in 1970, students have been at the forefront of change to protect our environment. That’s why CALPIRG, the statewide student-directed nonprofit and partners across the country have launched #YouthEarthWeek.
At 10:00 a.m. PST, April 22nd, CALPIRG Students is hosting the California Climate Action Summit, a gathering of hundreds of climate activists from 25 campuses as well as state leaders and elected officials, to highlight past victories and call for further action on climate in California.

10am: Climate Action Summit Kickoff and Opening Speeches
Launch the day with us and hear from leaders around the state on climate action – like moving to 100% Clean Electricity by 2030, protecting our oceans, and more!
11am: Action Hour: Voices for 100% Social Media Event
Join us for a fun action event to amplify the momentum behind a 100% Renewable Energy future over social media. We’ll start with a brief training, make our video or photo messages, and get our hashtag trending to build visibility for climate solutions!
12pm: Youth Voices: Climate Activism Panel
Young people in California are stepping up to the plate to call for real climate solutions. Join this panel to hear from young activists around the country (and the world) and their victories over the years.
1pm: Bending the Curve: Expert Panel on Climate Solutions
In 2015, a team of 50 researchers from all ten campuses of the University of California (UC), published a report, entitled: Bending the Curve (BtC): Ten Scalable Solutions for Carbon Neutrality and Climate Stability. The title refers to flattening that upward curve of greenhouse gas emissions curve which are responsible for climate disruption. Hear more from some of the lead authors on the report about climate solutions and student projects!
2pm: Advocacy Workshop: Working with the Media
Take action this Earth Day by writing a letter-to-the editor advocating for accelerated action on climate! We’ll launch the hour with a brief training on how to write good quality LTEs, write our letters, and submit them to local news outlets on the spot.
3pm: 100% Clean Energy Panel
What would it look like to live in a world powered by 100% clean, renewable energy? And how can we get there? Hear from experts in the field, policy leaders, and activists on how we can transform our energy systems and fight climate change.
