CALPIRG Holds Week of Action, Solar Concert and Sacramento Lobby Day in support of 100% Clean Energy in CA

CALPIRG Students, a student activism group with a chapter at UC San Diego, has organized a huge week of action this week in support of 100% clean energy in California. The week of action includes a massive petition drive to generate 5,000 petitions in support of clean energy legislation, a solar-powered concert featuring UCSD talent, and a Lobby Day in Sacramento with 100 students from across the state.

Common Lip Products Contain Chemicals of Concern

We should be able to trust that the products we buy are safe — especially ones our families use every day, applied directly to our lips. However, CALPIRG Studentsreleased a consumer guide titled “Kiss Off” which contains examples of lipsticks, lip balms, and children’s lip products which contain ingredients linked to cancer, hormone disruption, and reproductive problems. Popular brands such as Maybelline, L’Oréal, and ChapStick made the list.

As we ring in 2018, California will have a number of new laws that impact all of us. Below is a set of notable laws that went into effect January 1st that CALPIRG helped pass.

100 Student Leaders in Support of SB 100 for 100% Clean Energy

100 student leaders from colleges across the state are urging the California State Assembly to pass SB 100 for 100% clean electricity by 2045. The students are leaders of a wide range of student organizations including student government, political and professional organizations, and cultural and social groups.

After months and months of hard work, we are proud that voters saw through the deceptive ballot measure funded by out-of-state plastic companies and voted to continue to protect our ocean.
