Students from Across State Launch 2016 Ballot Campaign to Ban Bags

Sacramento – Motivated by a love for the environment and a commitment to protecting the ocean and marine wildlife, 50  students from CALPIRG, the California Student Public Interest Research Group chapters stretching from UC Berkeley to UC San Diego officially launched their campaign to Save the statewide ban on Single-Use Plastic Bags.

Plastic bags pollute our ocean and beaches and kill thousands of sea turtles every year. That’s why CALPIRG helped make California the first state in the country to ban plastic grocery bags.

Youth Vote Posts Strong Showing in 2012 Elections

New expert estimates indicate that turnout of young voters between the ages of 18 and 29 will likely exceed 50 percent in yesterday’s national election.  This strong showing places 2012 on par with record 2008 turnout rates and bucks predictions of a precipitous drop-off in young voter participation.
