This weekend about 80 CALPIRG staff and student volunteers from across the state met at UCLA for a day of training, campaign planning, and a phone bank to turn out the youth vote on November 4th. Many thanks to Los Angeles City Councilmember Paul Koretz for being a guest speaker!

Yesterday Governor Brown approved our Million Clean Cars bill. I'm excited to tell you that this morning, he signed a statewide plastic bag ban into law.
Thanks to you, the work of our volunteers, campus leaders, the thousands of students who signed petitions, and our coalition partners, we won our Million Clean Cars Campaign!
The state legislature voted to approve the Million Clean Cars program last month and Governor Brown signed the bill just last week.

This weatherization event was part of the Energy Alternative Spring Break Service Trip, a new program in California to train students from all across the state to help their communities reduce energy use. The project was spearheaded by the Energy Service Corps, a joint venture between the statewide public interest group CALPIRG (California Public Interest Research Group Foundation) and AmeriCorps.
Due to miscalculation, federal grant money to be cut by 15 percent.
